Description:

SS GENERAL ORDERS MURDER OF CAMP INMATES
Important printed document, 1p. legal folio, Office of Chief of Counsel for War Crimes [Nuremberg, ca. 1946] an evidentiary translation of a 'Top Secret' SS-Economic and Administrative Main Office order generated at Oranienburg, Apr. 27, 1943 and signed by RICHARD GLUCKS (1889-1945), Concentration Camps Inspector and a direct subordinate of Heinrich Himmler. Glucks was responsible for the forced labor of the camp inmates, supervised medical practices in the camps, including human experimentation, and initiated the use of Zyklon B gas. The document is directed to the commandants of all of the major concentration camps, including Dachau, Buchenwald, Auschwitz, Mauthausen, Natzwiler, etc. It specifically instructs: 'The Reichsfuhrer-SS [Heinrich Himmler] has decreed that in the future only insane prisoners can be selected for the Action 14f13 by the medical commissions appointed for this purpose. All other prisoners unfit for work (persons suffering from tuberculosis, bedridden invalids etc.) are absolutely to be excluded from this action. Bed-ridden prisoners are to be given suitable work, which can also be done in bed. The order...must be strictly observed...The requests for gasoline for this purpose [cremation of bodies in open pits] will therefore be discontinued...' Chipped at margins with some paper loss (especially at bottom), but with no loss of text, a horizontal tape repair at bottom affecting only the translator's attestation. 'Aktion 14f13' was a campaign by Nazi Germany to murder concentration camp prisoners. Also called invalid or prisoner euthanasia, the sick, elderly and those deemed no longer fit for work were separated from the rest of the prisoners in a selection process, after which they were murdered. Clearly, Himmler's only concern here was saving gasoline as the course of the war in Russia had turned. Chilling, at the very least.
