Description:

SPRINGFIELD M1 GARAND
Original 1943 dated M1 Garand rifle, 43.5 in. long, a semiautomatic, .30-cal rifle. Distinctly marked on the front side of the smooth pistol grip portion of the stock is a circled serifed ‘P'. Firearm features a blade styled front sight and an adjustable rear peep sight, with a ‘BATTLE RANGE' elevation knob, locking bar, and a Springfield barrel. The barrel is marked ‘I-S-A-4-43', and showing a 'dot' 'P' on the tapered portion of the barrel, also marked with the inspection stamp 'M' on the side of the exposed end of the gas tube near the barrel crown. Additional markings appear on the lower receiver with an ‘M' in a circle followed by a '5' and below that, 'D 28291 27'. The front connecting arm of the bolt is marked ‘6535382 SA'. The bolt, trigger housing, hammer, safety and uncut operating rod are all Springfield components with the housing marked '28290-18-SA' and is fully parkerized, with exception of the trigger and trigger connecting rod which are blued. The seven-digit serial number ‘151XXXX' is stamped on the top rear of the receiver, also marked ‘U.S. RIFLE CAL. .30 M1 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY'. This serial number indicates the rifle was manufactured in April of 1943. Butt plate and stock exhibits typical trap door and storage pockets, interior showing the oiler and barrel cleaner present. The parkerized finish to the rifle is near perfection, showing only the lightest of wear to leading edges of the with the exception of the barrel stock top cover band which is well worn, as is the fore stock metal band which has been painted black. Complete with period original olive drab web sling with steel fittings, all unmarked. The sling is pliable and strong, in excellent condition with slight wear to the steel fittings. The stock is fine, displaying some minor scratches and minimal dents throughout. To the best of our knowledge, this rifle is completely original, with some evidence of minor replacement parts, true to it's original format. An important piece in the collections of both World War II and classic firearms collectors, rare to find an example in such near impeccable condition.
