(Spanish-American War Superb content sailors letter describing the destruction of the Spanish fleet at Santiago, 8pp. 8vo., on board U.S S. Texas, July 6, 1898 The sailor writes: ". half-naked men working [guns]... they worked like machines. . saw a destroyer trying to do the Brooklyn... watched to see each shot strike her square in the middle... see her go sky high men and all. [Admiranti Oquendo] let go broadside after broadside... we were only hit four times... a 12in shell hither quarter... made for the beach burning fiercely... the last one was drove ashore by the Iowa... in at the death of the Christabal Colon... she made for the beach striking her colors.
