SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR NAVAL FULL DRESS ACCESSORIES An extraordinary group of relics, includes full-dress epaulettes, black cocked hat, and the sword belt of an American naval officer who served during the Spanish-American War. The items are housed in the original 20" x 7" x 6" metal box designed to keep them in excellent condition and proper shape. The box bears a manufacture stamp reading "W.S. Jenks 723 7th St N.W. WASH D.C.", a supplier founded at that address in 1866. The uniform pieces are stellar: crafted by the Washington D.C.-based military furnisher F.J. Heiberger, they bear the rank of commander. The epaulettes show the pre-World War I commander's badge and a Supply Corps insignia over the anchor device. The sword belt and suspenders are intact, with no torn leather and seven stripes of gold trim. The black cocked hat shows little wear to the felt, a dashing 3" x 5" fold of gold cloth, and jaunty gold loops on both ends. As American naval uniforms changed during World War I, these classic uniform pieces likely graced the frame of a Naval officer during the Spanish-American War. A truly wonderful set of military relics in very good to fine condition.
