Description:

Great Soviet criminal dossier of Russian soldier Morozov Nikoli Michaelovich, charged with spying on behalf of the Germans. The file was issued from the Leningrad Prison, the site of his execution. The dossier, 4to., is well-detailed, containing 6-8 pages of typed text on rare 'Special Department of the NKVD' letterhead. According to the documentation, Michaelovich was forced to surrender to the German army, and as a prisoner-of-war agreed to spread counter-revolutionary propaganda among the Red Army in exchange for his release. He was arrested in early November 1941, after (quite unsuccessfully) attempting to convince a group of twenty Russian soldiers to surrender to the Germans. His mug shot is also affixed to the inside of the front cover. Michaelovich was sentenced to death on November 2nd, his file was opened the following day, and his file was closed upon his execution -- just five days after the verdict was issued. Similar examples of these dossiers are quite rare, as the 'anti-spy' department of the NKVD was considered top-secret. Some discoloration to the covers, vertical fold along the right edge of the interior pages, else very good.
