Description:

Original Cold War era poster, 13 x 19.25 in., showing two separate images. The first half depicts a characterization of President Reagan, known as the 'Cowboy President', without a head, in a suit with a money sign chain, while he shakes hands with an Israeli soldier as they complete a weapons deal. The soldier wears a belt made of skulls and is seen with blood dripping from his hands and feet. The caption beneath reads: 'The puppet vandal justified the boss's hopes.' The second image shows a Pentagon representative holding a bomb while sitting with a lion meant to be a characterization of England. The two figures are seen sitting upside down while their tea and ashtray remain upright. Between their chairs is a banner, reading 'Soviet threat to Western Europe'. The caption reads 'A far-fetched, false threat is not at all a reason for psychosis'. The publishing line at the bottom left indicates it was published by the Plakat Publishing House in 1984 and is one of 15,000 copies. The printed signature of the artist, Kukryniksy, is seen at the bottom right. Kukryniksy was the pseudonym used by three Russian artists, active from 1924 to the 1980s. The trio was renowned for the Soviet propaganda posters from World War II, later serving as courtroom sketch artists during the Nuremburg trials. Light chipping, else very good.
