Description:

Unusual silver presentation medal, approx. 4 1/2" x 2", issued by the Sons and Daughter of Liberty, an American patriotic society named for the pre-Revolutionary War resistance movement. The clasp bears the name of the organization, with an American eagle at center and backed with crossed gavels. Suspended from this clasp is a small engraved medallion reading "Ex. State Asso. Councilor", as well as a "ribbon" consisting of a vertical American flag in enamel on silver. The medal itself bears the seal of the organization and their motto "Fidelity, Patrioitism, Integrity". The reverse of the "ribbon" bears the engraved presentation "Presented to Ex. S[tate] A[ssociation] C[ouncilor] Lena Baurle By The State Council of Penna. S. And D. Of L. At Reading Pa. October 13, 1932". The reverse of the medal bears the society's monogram and a 1907 patent date. Both the medal and "ribbon" are marked "Silver" on the reverse. Shows dark tarnish overall, else very good. The medal is housed in a black leather envelope padded with purple velvet, bearing the engraved name and address of Philadelphia manufacturer Kenney Co. in gilt on one flap. Beyond their colonial-era roots, very little information is available regarding the Sons and Daughters of Liberty.
