Description:

SOLDBUCH AND P.O.W. FILE OF GERMAN FROM 90TH INF'Y DIVISION
A good grouping of material following the tracks of German Offz, Theo Bindokat, born 1915, a member of the valian German 90th Light Infantry Division, Panzer Abw. Abt. 10/4. Bindokat was captured May 13, 1943 This division was earmarked by Rommel to lead the attack on Tobruk. The division was also in the battles of Bir Hakeim as well as the First and Second battles of El Alamein. In the Tunesia Campaign, the division fought desperately until forced to surrender when they literally ran our of ground upon which to stand, surrendering to New Zealanders at Cap Bon the same day Bindokat surrendered. Included in this lot are three Basic Personnel Records, each for Bindokat, each 2pp. 8 x 8 in., bearing Bandokat's 'mug shots' and fingerprints, vital statistics, date of capture by 'engl. 8th Army', profession, etc., along with a list of all the camps in which he had been held, from Morocco to four or five other camps scattered across the American southwest. Also present is an 8vo. British P.O.W. form, May 17, 1946, showing Bindokat being received at a British POW camp on May 26, 1946, and finally being 'repatriated' on Aug. 9, 1947. Bindokat's 'denazified' soldbuch is included, the soldier having wisely obliterated the names of his senior officers and excising his war record. He does leave in his awards, which include Iron Crosses, First and Second Class. Lastly, there is a letter from a camp officer commending Bindokat on his good behavior, and a pass sent to a lady allowing her to visit the prisoner. Overall very good.
