SLY STONE HANDWRITTEN WORKING LYRICS
SLY STONE (b. 1943) American musician, songwriter, and record producer, most famous for his role as frontman for Sly and the Family Stone, a band which played a critical role in the development of soul, funk, rock, and psychedelia in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1993, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Two pages of Stone''s thoughts upon lyrics for a song, the first lines printed: "LIVE IT UP TODAY / LIVE IT DOWN TOMORROW / THINKIN YOU GET AWAY / CAUSE YOU KNOW HOW TO STAY / BEFORE YOU CAN GIVE SOME / YOU GOT TO HAVE SOME". In hurried scribbling, he adds on both sides: "...Not enough of anything to lend...Too much of everything...Dedicated Criminal - Medicated Mind Believed a tip - Skip the script Before your 1st crime..." More. Paper heavily soiled with stains in places, possibly salvaged from the floor.
