229. SLAVERY FOOT SHACKLES Extremely rare hand-forged slave foot shackles, ca. 1780-1810, designed for use on an adult. The shackles were typically used on a plantation to restrict the movement of a high-risk slave. Slave shackles were primarily forged by Europeans or Africans on plantations. De-accessioned from the Slave Relics Museum in Walterboro, South Carolina and accompanied by a letter confirming the sale and describing the item. Lightly rusting as expected, otherwise intact. $600 - 800
