(Slave Pay Roll) Rare war date plantation slave payroll document, 1p folio, Harlem Plantation , Louisiana, Feb. 2,1865 This document was directed to Union Army headquarters, Department of the Gulf, with the intention of ensuring that newly- liberated slaves were fairly paid for their labors. It lists the names of 38 slaves, the number of months worked, wages per month (E3 to E5 per month), the total amount earned and expenses. A fascinating and revealing slave item! Two marginal tears, otherwise fine.
