Description:

SILVERED EAGLE PRESENTED TO HEINRICH HIMMLER
An exceptional presentation piece, a stunning hand-carved eagle presented to Heinrich Himmler on his 35th birthday and later used by Himmler as a model for one of the rarest pieces of Allach porcelain. This magnificent eagle stands 24 1/2" tall on a 6 1/4" x 6 1/2" base. It is entirely polychromed in silver which remains 99% intact and has actually developed a very attractive patina. On the bottom a card decorated with violets has been nailed to the base: "Gift from Prof. Krieger 7. Oct. 35 INVENTORY NR. 93". This date corresponds with Himmler's 35th birthday. The artist was Prof. WILHELM KRIEGER (1877-1945), a highly-regarded sculptor who was also associated with various porcelain manufacturers including Rosenthal. From 1937 to 1944, Krieger also participated in the annual German Art Exhibition in the Haus der Kunst. Clearly this gift very much impressed Himmler, whose SS operated the porcelain factory at Allach. That factory produced eagle porcelain almost identical to this presentation, now a very rare piece.
