Description:

SHIPPING A SAFE TO TOMBSTONE
Fine content A.L.S. 1p. 4to., on letterhead of the "Office of N. S. Warner Fire and Burglar Proof Safes", Rochester, NY, Mar. 25, 1880 to Cashier B. M. Jacobs of the Pima County Bank, Tucson, which was at the time preparing to open a branch in Tombstone. Warner advises that they are in receipt of an order for a safe, noting: "...but regret to inform you that owing to the enormous rate of freight...we cannot supply the Safe at the price named without being at a great loss...". Bank president P. W. Smith moved to Tombstone in late 1879, and the next year opened the Agency Pima County Bank. Among his clients were Ike Clanton and Wyatt Earp. Very good.
