Description:

SEPP DIETRICH PRESENTATION BEER HALL PUTSCH GOBLET
JOSEF 'SEPP' DIETRICH (1892-1966) German SS General, one of Nazi Germany's most decorated soldiers. Prior to 1929 he was Hitler's chauffeur and bodyguard but received rapid promotion after his participation in the Night of the Long Knives. Commanded 6th Panzer Army in the Battle of the Bulge. Sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for the execution of American P.O.W.s during the offensive. A remarkable Sepp Dietrich relic, a sterling or plated goblet named to him and given to him on the occasion of a banquet held by Adolf Hitler on the tenth anniversary of the abortive Munich Beer Hall Putsch of November 8-9, 1923. The rather ornate tapered goblet, 5 5/8 in. tall, bears a raised ring near the top bearing two bands of laurel leaves. Between these bands appears raised lettering: 'JUBILAUMSGABE DER KAMERADSCHAFTLICHEN VEREINIGUNG' ('ANNIVERSARY OF THE COMRADESHIP ASSOCIATION') with a raised mobile swastika centered above the personal engraving beneath. The engraving reads 'DEM PG. [Party Member] SEPP DIETRICH FUR 10 JAHRE TREUE 9. NOV. 1933'. The bottom of the goblet bears the maker mark of noted silversmiths Wellner. Slight tarnish, else very good. Dietrich participated in the putsch, and first met Heinrich Himmler on the same day.
