Description:

"SELECTED CARTOONS BY FANG LING"
Chinese softbound publication, "Selected Cartoons by Fang Ling, Vol. I", the pseudonym of the artists Fang Cheng and Zhong Ling (Beijing: Tianxia Publishing House), 1952, 82pp. 4to., bound in the Chinese style at the left edge, a collection of anti-American, anti-Western, and anti-imperialist political cartoons, primarily decrying American militarism and the moneyed interest though to be responsible for it. Many cartoons are especially critical of America's support for and rearming of Japan, which had been the mutual enemy of the U.S. and China only a few years previously. The publication contains several fold-out images, one of which celebrates the common cause of the two great Communist powers, China and the Soviet Union. Toned throughout, with the binding somewhat loose, else very good. From a single collection obtained entirely in China pre-2000.
