SHULTZ (b. 1920) American economist, politician, and businessman, serving in various positions under three different Republican presidents and holding four different cabinet posts, shaped the conservative foreign policy of the Reagan administration. T.L.S on Secretary of State letterhead, 1p. 4to., March 26, 1986, addressed to congressman CARLOS MOORHEAD. In part: 'I want you to know how much I appreciate your vote in support of the President's proposal to supply vitally needed aid to the Nicaraguan democratic resistance. The failure of the House to accept the need for a difficult choice is discouraging but not final. We have no choice but to re-visit this issue, and soon...' Fine. SOLD WITH: HENRY STIMSON (1867-1950), T.L.S. on Department of State letterhead, 2pp 4to., Aug. 14, 1929, approving Giuseppe Motta as Joint Commissioner under the Terms of the Treaty for the Advancement of Peace - made between American and Peruvian representatives - and asking whether 'the appointment...would meet with the approval of the Peruvian Government'. Non-intrusive paper clip stain, else very good. SOLD WITH: EDWARD R. STETTINIUS, JR. (1900-1949), T.L.S. on Office of Production Management letterhead, 1p. 4to., June 11, 1941, addressed to an editor of the Army Navy Journal regarding the Department of Priorities. Fine.
