SECOND SEMINOLE WAR OFFICER'S LETTER A.L.S. 1p. 4to, Savannah, Oct. 16, 1838, in which Capt. C. Stephens of the Cheatham Artillery writes Georgia Gov. Gilmer asking not to be placed in command of militia. In part: "...A company of Militia has been drafted from the 1st. Regt. of Georgia Militia to serve against the Seminoles and Creeks...In Dec. of 1835 I proceeded to Florida with a detachment of men...furnished by the City of Savannah until discharged by General Scott. I do not wish to command these drafted men, [and] I think my having served a tour of duty gives me some claims to exemption...". Very good to fine condition.
