Description:

SEAT CUSHION FROM THE CONFERENCE ROOM AT HITLER'S "EAGLE'S NEST"
A fine relic from Adolf Hitler's Kehlsteinhaus, the "Eagle's Nest" built above the Berghof, a large floral seat cushion once used on one of the easy chairs surrounding the conference table on the second floor of the chalet. The 19" x 20 1/2" cushion bears a brown felt cover embroidered with beige flowers and leaves, with a brown and white covering the fabric seams. Accompanied by a British officer's letter of provenance, 2pp., Sep. 19, 1985. Group Capt. G. S. A. Parnaby, O.B.E. describes his visit to the Kehlsteinhaus "immediately after the cessation of hostilities". He visits the building with an American colonel who, as they leave, steals one of the seat cushions from a chair beside "a very long and obviously high quality conference table". The colonel presents the cushion to the British officer, who states that he has kept "Hitler's cushion" in his possession ever since. The cushion is pictured also in Mohawk Arms Catalog 52, Nov. 20, 2004 sale, Lot A-62, p. 75, and a copy of the catalog is included. There also is included five pages of text and illustrations from the 1985 publication "The Eagle's Nest" (Berchtesgaden: Druckerei und Verlag Plenk KG). The cushion is illustrated upon a chair at a large, round conference table before a fireplace given to Hitler by Mussolini. Relics from the Kehlsteinhaus are especially rare.
