PHILIP SCHUYLER (1733 - 1804) American Revolution major general commanding the northern department, member of the Continental Congress and one of the first senators from New York. Good content A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Albany, 1796 to Superintendent of Military Stores Samuel Hodgdon. In part: "...Capt. Houdin having attempted in vain to sell a bill on you agreeably to your directions, and not being able to forward the articles for the Indians, without making immediate payment, applied to me for advise... " Schuyler then sets forth explicit directions as to how Houdin's purchase might by financed. Houdin was a well-known figure in expeditions against hostiles in northern New York.
