Description:

Visor cap as worn by a non-commissioned officer of the Third Reich "schutzpolizei" ("protection police"), constructed of "field-grey" wool with a brown wool cap band. The edges of the crown and the band are bordered with green wool piping, and the front of the band is fitted with an shell metal police insignia badge (possibly a later replacement), beneath a metal and red wool rosette at the peak. The black faux-leather chin strap is affixed over the black "vulkanfibre" bill by a pebbled metal button on each side. The interior is fitted with a brown faux-leather sweat band and lined with cream-colored rayon, the latter fitted with a plastic diamond-shaped sweat shield printed with the label of Bremen maker Heinrich Balke. A small paper label inserted beneath the sweat shield gives the size "54 1/2", as well as the numerical designation "840/5175" The sweat shield is partly detached along one edge, with expected soiling and wear to the interior, else very good. Due to the possibly replaced badge, offered as is. Sold with a modern reproduction fur-lined winter cap of field-grey wool construction, bearing a police badge at front and stamped "R.B. Nr. 0/1200/0700 58-44" in black ink the interior lining. Two pieces.
