147. ALEXANDER SCHIMMELFENNIG (1824 - 1865) Union brigadier general at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg where he was wounded and evaded capture for three days. He later commanded forces in the Carolinas, and finally relieved due to poor health. Very rare signature "Schimmelfennig" on a closely-cut slip of paper, likely removed from a letter. The signature bears a rusted paperclip stain affecting two letters, else very good. Sold with a 1881 letter from his daughter sending the signature and a letter. Two pieces. $600 - 800
