SAMUEL WARD (1814 - 1884) "Uncle Sam". American politician and lobbyist for financiers seeking legislation in their favor, brother of Julia Ward Howe, a bon vivant and raconteur who is claimed by many to be the original "Uncle Sam". Chatty and witty A.L.S "Uncle Sam", 4pp. 8vo., Naples, Sep. 3, 1883 to "My Dear Daisy". In part: "…I miss you so much that I am almost selfish enough to entertain a faint and unfortunate hope that you miss me a little…have you ever seen a dog turning round & round to find a soft place upon a board floor?…my heart bleeds…". Two file holes at top margin, else very good. Ex: Walter Benjamin.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling, shipping and insurance charges will be added to the invoice in one entry.
