SAMUEL OGLE
(1694-1752) Provincial Governor of Maryland, 1731-32, 1733-74, and 1746-52. Under his leadership Maryland became embroiled in a boundary dispute with Pennsylvania known as Creasp's War. The dispute simmered on for many years and was finally settled by survey of Mason and Dixon. Manuscript D.S. "Sam Ogle" as Governor, 1p. 4to., [n.p.] Aug. 24, 1751 an order to the Sherriff of Queen Anne's County: "... We Command you that the Acts of Assemb[ly]... immediately make a cause to be made due Proclamation thereof Hereof you are not to fail at your Peril" Trimmed at right resulting in the loss of a few words, light soiling and folds, identifying label affixed to bottom, else very good. Offered together with a second partly-printed D.S. as Governor, 1p. oblong folio on vellum, [n.p.] May 10, 1748, a deed for 89 acres of land in Prince George's County. Includes a detached wax seal. Several holes along folds, moderate soiling and toning, else good condition. Together, two pieces.
