SAMUEL L. CLEMENS(1835 - 1910) "Mark Twain", American author of such classics as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. Excellent, very early S.P., 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" (sight), a carte de visite image of the author as a young man, ca. 1865-70, boldly signed in his typical blue-purple ink: "Yrs truly Saml L. Clemens Mark Twain". Bottom corners rounded, a few tiny foxed spots, else very good to fine. Double matted and framed, not examined out of frame. Clemens is especially rare in signed images of such an early date!
