Description:

(1722 - 1803) Signer of the Declaration of Independence, an American revolutionary politician who organized opposition to the Stamp Act and was a leader in the agitation that led to Boston Tea Party. Fine content and association endorsement signed as President of the Massachusetts Senate, placed in the center of a autograph document signed by fellow revolutionary TRISTRAM DALTON (1738-1817). This document is a resolution of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, (Boston), Feb. 18, 1783. At top, Tristram Dalton writes: 'Ordered that Mr. [John] Lowell Gen'l [Artemas] Ward & Mr. Dwight with such as the Hon:ble Senate may join be a Committee to wait on his Excellency the Governor [John Hancock] with the following Message...' The message concerns an apparent dispute between Hancock and the sitting of the Suffolk County Supreme Judicial Court. Dalton signs beneath the first paragraph of text, and Adams signs 'S. Adams Presid't' beneath his concurring endorsement. Silked, with some loss and toning at folds, show through of text on verso at top, signatures and most of the text are very good to fine.
