American revolutionary politician who organized opposition to the Stamp Act and was a leader in the agitation that led to Boston Tea Party. Fine association, fine content war-date A.L.S. "S. Adams", 1p. 4to., Boston, Dec. 15, 1777 to Signer Elbridge Gerry in Pennsylvania. During the darkest days of the American Revolution, Adams forwards a resolution of the Massachusetts Assembly, instructions for the state's delegates. In full: "My dear Sir I have time only to inclose a Copy of a Resolution of the General Assembly for the Government of their delegates in Congress, which I judge necessary to be communicated to Congress before the Expiration of the present year. I have therefore sent this single Copy by this Post - other Copies will be sent by the next. I am with sincere affection for my Colleagues and other Friends, most cordially yours, S. Adams". Very light scattered foxing, negligible seal tear at left blank margin, else very good.
