Description:

Good lot of 11 Marconi telegraph forms containing diary entries from one of the first military convoys to France in June of 1917. While the writer is unknown, he discusses three ships in this convoy, including the USS Allen, USS Mongolia, and the USS Cyclops. The Cyclops later became famous after it mysteriously disappeared with the entirety of its crew in the Bermuda Triangle. In his June 19 entry, the writer notably also writes false alarm on boards, in part:"...about 8:00 pm heard no. 3 & 4 guns aft shoot...alarm bells went off...I went to radio shack and watched them man the boats...thought it was a drill until the ensign called out...made a smoke screen...shortly after"”one of the destroyers sent by blinked: 'Mistake, you fired on towing target'...went back & turned in. I just got my feet warm & off went another shot, followed by general alarm...Someone said the'log line' alongside the ship was a sub..." In another letter, the writer elaborately details another incident where a sailboat was confused for a submarine, adding nonchalantly:"Wonder if we shot it." Minor toning on some pages, else very good to fine.
