Description:

A superb photo album and collection of loose photographs/postcards purported to have been owned by an early Nazi Party member and SA brownshirt. The approx. 59 photographs or postcards are varying sizes, b/w, 1923-1939, and feature many images of early Party activities. Included are eleven which depict Adolf Hitler from his years of serving in World War I, to his early Party career, and eventually show him as Fuhrer. Nine show images of early Party members or gatherings, most notably the 'Strosstrupp Hitler', Hitler's first bodyguard detachment. Fifteen depict SS or SA members marching in various settings or posing, and another 24 are miscellaneous, one of which shows the grave of Adolf Hitler's father, Alois. Sold with a small felt bound photo album, unpaginated, supposedly owned by the same individual, containing approx. 50 b/w photographs documenting a voyage organized by the Nazi tourist organization 'KDF' on the cruise ship 'Robert Ley' on April 1, 1939. The photographs are all affixed to pages with untranslated German handwriting, presumed to be a narrative of the trip. Shown are the ship's elaborate dining rooms, lounging areas, ballroom, upper deck with passengers, living quarters, swimming pool, and more. Most importantly, four show Adolf Hitler paying a visit to the ship and mingling with passengers while wearing a blue navy Kriegsmarine cap. Accompanied by five printed maps from the voyage of the Robert Ley. Conditions vary, most photographs are creased with adhesive residue on the verso. A great collection of photographs.
