Description:

S.A. HONOR DAGGER WITH OBLITERATED ROHM INSCRIPTION
Early "Sturmabteilung" (S.A.) honor dagger, 8 3/4" blade, 13 3/4" overall, with light-brown wood grip perfectly fitted with an S.A. button and "high-necked eagle", the latter showing the slightest hint of verdigris. The grip shows one or two minute dings, and the nickel silver upper and lower hand guards are well fitted, showing only slight gaps. Both guards and the pommel nut are undamaged, with the lower guard marked "No", indicating the regional branch of the SA to which the owner belonged. This stamp also indicates that the dagger was manufactured prior to 1935. The blade shows notable run marks and scratches, with very slight oxidation, and the blade is deeply engraved "Alles fur Deutschland" ("All for Germany"). The reverse of the blade was originally engraved "In herzlicher kameradschaft Ernst Rohm" ("In cordial companionship Ernst Rohm"); however, this inscription was almost entirely ground off after Rohm fell out of Hitler's favor and was murdered during the "Night of the Long Knives", leaving only faint traces. This face of the blade also displays the maker's mark of Ernst Pack & Sohne of Solingen, the top half also mostly obliterated when the Rohm inscription was removed. The dagger is housed in a brown-finished steel scabbard, showing some surface oxidation overall, with nickel silver throat and chape, the latter showing dents and deformation to the ball at the tip. The thrpat is fitted with a brown leather hanger with metal buckle and clip, showing some cracking, with the clip also marked "OLC" with the RZM number "M5/71". A fine example showing honest wear.
