Description:

Dress dagger of the "Sturmabteilung" (SA), 8 3/4" blade, 13 3/4" overall, with brown wood grip inlaid on one side with a nickel silver national eagle and "button" insignia of the SA. The grip shows a notable chip to one side, with additional minor handling marks to the wood and minor patina visible to the metal fittings. Both inset medallions show very slight verdigris. The blade is deeply etched with the motto of the organization: "Alles fur Deutschland" ("All for Germany"), while the reverse shows a nearly obliterated oval maker's mark with additional grind marks indicating the removal of the inscription "In herzlicher kameradschaft Ernst Rohm" ("In cordial companionship Ernst Rohm"), following Rohm's murder during the "Night of the Long Knives". The blade additionally shows moderate run marks and slight oxidation freckling near the ricasso. The reverse of the lower crossguard is stamped "Wf", indicating the regional branch of the SA to which the owner belonged. This stamp also indicates that the dagger was manufactured prior to 1935. The dagger is housed in a scabbard of light brown-painted steel with nickel silver fittings. This scabbard shows some patina to the nickel fittings and wear and scratches to the paint, but with no apparent dents or deformation.
