Description:

S.A. DAGGER IDENTIFIED TO WAR CRIMINAL DR. HEINRICH GROSS
S.A. dagger identified to war criminal DR. HEINRICH GROSS and bearing his name in period engraving on the crossguard. Fittings are in very good condition with pommel, pommel nut and crossguard bearing only the typical surface scratches from age, S.A. button and inset eagle perfectly fitted, and wood finish to grip remains very good. The crossguard is deeply engraved: "Heinr. Gross" facing upward on the verso of the grip. The blade is marked by maker Aesculap, Tuttlingen, and it shows moderate running marks though the engraved motto is very strong. Scabbard bears very nominal surface scratches and miniscule chips, much better than is usually seen. DR. HEINRICH GROSS (1915-2005) was an Austrian doctor and psychiatrist with proven involvement in the killing of at least nine children with physical, mental and/or emotional/behavioral characteristics considered "unclean" by the Nazi regime. Gross was head of the Spiegelgrund children's psychiatric clinic. By 1942 he had killed more children than any other doctor in the hospital, harvesting the brains of his victims for further study. Served one year for his crimes.
