Description:

RUTHERFORD B. HAYES BRAILLE BROADSIDE
An excessively rare printed broadside 12" x 13 1/2", announcing in blind-embossed Braille-style Hayes' visit to the Kentucky Institute for the Education of the Blind on Sept. 18, 1877. The raised letters are in the traditional lettering rather than Braille, despite the fact that Braille was invented in 1821! It reads, in part: "...PROGRAMME OF EXERCISES On occasion of the visit of R.B. Hayes, President of the United States, to the Ky. Inst. for the Education of the Blind, Sept. 18th 1877...Welcoming Address of the Prest. of the Board of Trustees...Reply by President Hayes...". Folds, otherwise very good condition, and certainly a most unusual item.
