Description:

RUSSIAN MILITARY LEADERS SIGN A WAR-DATED DOCUMENT
Fine collection of signatures of four important Russian military figures on a single war-date document, 2pp. 4to., Feb. 19, 1945. The document, signed by a lower-ranking official, is a military attestation as to the merits of the commander of the 81st Infantry Div., Col. Josef Matusevich. On the verso, the document is docketed and signed by: KIRILL MOSKALENKO (1902-1985), Marshal of the Soviet Union, fought in both the Russian Civil War and World War II at Moscow, Stalingrad and Kursk; LEV MEHKLIS (1889-1953), Soviet politician and General of the Army. In 1942 he was the representative of the Stavka (headquarters) of supreme commander-in-chief at the Crimean Front, always at odds with professional military men with disastrous results; ALEXEI YEPISHEV (1908-1985) Soviet politician and Chief of the Main Political Directorate of the Soviet Army and Navy from 1962-85; and IVAN PETROV (1896-1958), Soviet general, participated in the Battle of Odessa, Battle of Sevastopol and noted for heading the Separate Coastal Army, 2nd Belorussian Front, 4th Ukrainian Front, and several other units. Petrov further adds in his hand that the candidate 'cooperates' should be promoted to General-Major. Very good.
