Description:

RUDOLF HESS
(1894 - 1987) Nazi German Deputy Fuhrer and second in command after Goering, Hess was one of Hitler's closest confidantes and friends. In an unauthorized peace mission, Hess flew a German fighter to England and surrendered, purportedly attempting to ally Germany with Great Britain against Russia. His mission, of course, failed and Hess was imprisoned at Spandau where he was found hanged in 1987. Good content T.L.S. on his personal letterhead, 1p. 4to., Munich, Dec. 14, 1937 to 'Frau Hurny', a long-time personal friend. In part: '...Among the many letters I received on the occasion of the birth of our son [Wolf Rudiger Hess], yours was a particular joy for me. Not only because I heard from you personally after such a long time, but above all because of the lovely way in which you wrote to me. Thank you very much to you and your whole family for the good wishes. I'm really sorry I didn't know you were coming to Munich; I would have been genuinely happy to see you and your young daughter again. But I give not giving up hope that I will make this possible on another occasion; be it that your way will take you to Munich again, perhaps even together with your husband...You guessed correctly: my son is the first child that was born to us after ten years of marriage. He is extraordinarily strong, as he was born weighing four kilos. He is doing just as well as his mother...'. With mailing envelope. Mailing folds, else fine. Mrs. Hurny was the spouse of Jean Hurny (1871-1951), a school professor who offered Hess a place in his home and taught him while Hess was a student in Switzerland. WITH: the 1p. 12mo. Nov. 30, 1927 engraved announcement of Wolf Rudiger Hess' birth, also with envelope. Two pieces.
