Description:

(1894 - 1987) Nazi German Deputy Fuhrer and second in command after Goring, Hess was one of Hitler's closest confidantes and friends. In an unauthorized peace mission, Hess flew a German fighter to England and surrendered, purportedly attempting to ally Germany with Great Britain against Russia. His mission, of course, failed and Hess was imprisoned at Spandau where he was found hanged in 1987. Fine content early T.L.S., 1p. 4to., Munich, Sep. 30, 1925 to the "Gauleitungen of Westphalia, Rhineland-Nord and Rhineland-South". Hess discusses a proposed speaking trip by Adolf Hitler, and the difficulty in filling rooms a year after being released from Landsberg while subversive speech was still restricted. In part: "...The prohibition of speech in Prussia has shifted Mr. Hitler's journey. The representative meeting in Hamm can not be held as originally provided on 25 Oct. but only on Saturday the 31st...Because of the increase in the costs associated with the rooming for travelers...Sunday will probably be brought forward...Mr. Hitler prefers to speak in the evening. At 4 o'clock it is already dark...Herr Hitler does not want to spend his time in the areas in which people are not allowed to speak freely (Sachsen, Thuringen, Wurttemberg)...The number of members is not very large in those places...so it is questionable that larger rooms can be filled...Herr Hitler will not be content with a bare-bones general meeting...Of course, the ban is raised...Naturally, the representative meeting should take place as before in the extended framework..." File holes with a few negligible marginal chips, else very good.
