Description:

RUDOLF HESS' PERSONAL "COBURG" BLOTTER AND LETTER HOLDER
An important pair of personalized relics once owned and used by Deputy Fuhrer and Minister RUDOLF HESS (1894-1987), including a roller-type blotter and a letter holder. The blotter bears a crystal handle with sterling silver end pieces, one of which bears Hess' unique "R H" monogram, the other end engraved: "Coburg, 10.7.192". Both engravings are of a period style and absolutely show vintage workmanship and legitimate wear. The 9.125 x 2.25 in. blotter rests upon a 10.25 x 3.25 crystal tray. Also present is a letter holder, crystal with silver arched bands at the top, one bearing Hess' monogram which is engraved identically to the monogram found on the blotter. Both pieces bear a "800" purity stamp and the hallmark of Dresden silversmith Hermann Behrnd. The letter holder bears a small chip at lower-right front corner, else both pieces are fine. These items were likely presented to Hess at a rally, speech or a major meeting at Coburg on July 7, 1921 - over a year before Hitler and the S.A. would famously march at the city.
