Description:

RUDOLF BRANDT (1904 - 1948) One of Hitler's personal physicians, at the Nuremburg Trials he was charged with criminal experimentation, condemned to death. Interestingly, Brandt offered his own body for the same type of evil experimentation which he had undertaken, but for obvious reasons he was hanged instead. Good content and association T.L.S., 2pp. 4to., May 8, 1942 to RICHARD KORHERR (1903-1989), chief inspector of the statistical bureau of the SS and author of the Korherr Report, a 1943 analysis of the reduction of the Jewish population in Europe as a result of the policies of the Final Solution. Brandt writes on Reichsfuhrer-SS Heinrich Himmler's behalf to "correct" comments Korherr had made in a recent letter. In large part: "I was able to present your letter of April 23, 1942 to the Reichsfuhrer-SS. He said that despite all the misgivings it has raised, and which are only partially true, the good news for the population is that during the war, despite the blackouts, crime has not become any more prevalent than in the past. The question would be to examine whether the statistics are recording crimes which are not detected. I would ask you to contact the department of SS-Obergruppenfuhrer [Reinhard] Heydrich, if you are approached by the Ministry of Propaganda on the subject of these statistics. Another matter concerns the statistics of 'Lebensborn'. The directive of the Reichsfuhrer-SS, that you should drive from your resort to Munich and talk to SS-Standartenfuhrer [and Lebensborn managing director Max] Sollmann about the Lebensborn statistics, has not reached you in time. Therefore I ask that you get in touch with... Sollmann and to clarify these questions either in writing or occasionally to talk to... Sollmann..." Brandt signs boldly at the conclusion in green ink. The letter shows folds and file holes to the left margin, else very good.
