Description:

RUDOLF BRANDT
(1909-1948) Personal assistant to Heinrich Himmler, condemned to death at Nuremberg for human experiments and killings of prisoners in German concentration camps, including supplying 86 skeletons of Jews to a German anatomist. Fine association T.L.S. ‘Ihr R. Brandt' 1p. 8vo., Berlin, July 18, 1944, to OSWALD POHL (1892-1951) Head of the Economic Office of the SS and ultimate overseer of the concentration camp system. It was Pohl who turned his victims' dental gold, eyeglasses, hair, etc. into cash for the SS, using the infamous 'Max Heiliger' Swiss accounts. Captured and executed in 1951. Brandt writes, in part: ‘…I would be grateful if you would reply to my letter dated June 19, 1944 which I gave you at Bergwald…a request from SS-group leader Dr. [very possibly Karl] Brandt…about possible relief in the accommodation of prisoners. Basically, we are in complete agreement. I ask that I send a corresponding letter from the Reichsfuhrer...to SS-group leader Dr. Brandt…'. Karl Brandt (1904-1948) was a German physician and Reich Commissioner of Sanitation and Health involved in human experimentation and the apparent pioneer of the use of carbon monoxide for mass killings. He was also responsible for the 1939 ‘Law for the Protection of Hereditary Health' that was used to introduce compulsory sterilization. File holes at left, a tape repair, otherwise very good.
