Description:

JACK RUBY (1911 - 1967) Dallas nightclub owner who shot and killed Lee Harvey Oswald following Oswald's assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. Scarce A.Ms. (unsigned), 4pp. 8vo., [n.p., n.d., likely written from his jail cell, ca. 1965-67], in pencil. An interesting set of notes revealing some of Ruby's sentiments, particularly his obsession with patriotism and "doing the right thing". In part: "...People taking advantage...I lived in back of the Silver Spur for two years. Went into Pizza business, Log Cabin business, Medicine business. Took little colored boy to New York for chance to get in movies...When Wally Weston walked the President's fifty mile hike, I met him...4th of July I insisted on having flags put up in both clubs and scolded Andy because I thought he didn't have the flags put up right...I paid a tax that didn't have to be paid...I ran out to protect two girls from being beaten in front of the Silver Spur... ". At conclusion EARL RUBY later authenticates the handwriting as being that of his late brother. Very good. Matted with an original front page of the Nov. 25, 1963 edition of the Dallas Times Herald which bears an enormous photo of the famous image of Ruby as he slew Oswald at the Dallas Police Station, and brass descriptive plaque, all set into a large black wood frame. $500-700
