Description:

Scarce example of a regimental sabretache, a flat pouch most commonly worn by cavalry officers along with their sabre. The item, likely mid to late nineteenth-century, is constructed of treated black leather dyed red within, with three white-painted straps with brass buckles at top to attach the pouch to a sword belt. Most interestingly, the stiff front flap bears the brass crest of the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery, consisting of a rampant lion and unicorn flanking a crowned garter containing a quartered shield, above banners emblazoned "Dieu et Mon Droit" ("God and My Right"), and "Canada". Beneath these appears a cannon in profile above the bannered motto of the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery: "Quo Fas et Gloria Ducunt" ("Everywhere That Right and Glory Lead"). The inner flap is detached but present, and the leather shows some cracking and soiling overall, with some verdigris to the brass fittings, else very good.
