Description:

ROYAL ENGINEERS PRESENTATION INVASION BEACHES PROPELLER
A great Royal Engineers Inland Waterways Transport presentation piece, a three-bladed approx. 11 in. brass boat propeller engraved and presented to 'Lt. (QM) W. J C. (Bogie) Allen[?] By H.Q. 3 I.W.T. Gp. R.E.' The engraving was accomplished on a brass disc affixed to the center of the propeller. Each blade of the propeller is also engraved with various ports at which the officer served, and his dates of service as well: 'COURSEULLES NORMANDY JUNE '44 [Juno Beach]', GHENT BELGIUM NOVEMBER '44 [the battle for Antwerp]', and 'NUMEGEN [sic, Nijmegen] MARCH '45 ZWOLLE MAY '45' Tarnished, with the presentation worn a bit, yet still overall very good. The Royal Engineers Inland Waterways Transport was charged with bringing all vessels and manpower needed to clear ports, transport material, repair harbor facilities, regulate traffic on waterways, and operate bridges and locks, thus their expertise was crucial on the landing beaches and in newly-liberated ports.
