Description:

Good lot of three items signed by notable figures affiliated with the British Royal Air Force, includes: ARTHUR T. HARRIS (1892 - 1984) "Bomber Harris", British Air Marshal and head of the RAF Bomber Command in which capacity he oversaw the first 1,000-bomber raid. Signature in blue ink on a 6 1/4" x 4 1/4" first-day cover released by the R.A.F. museum at Waddington, adding "RAF". Very good to fine. WITH: FREDERICK HANDLEY PAGE (1885-1962) English aircraft industry pioneer known as the "father of the heavy bomber". T.L.S., 1p. 8vo., London, Nov. 18, 1941, to artist Frank O. Salisbury. Handley Page forwards a request from a group captain at R.A.F. Scampton, requesting a portrait of a recent recipient of the Distinguished Flying Medal and the George Medal, and states that he would act but feels that he has already done enough for Scampton. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. The letter which he forwards is affixed at the top right corner, else very good. WITH: WERNER H. CHRISTIE (1917-2004), Royal Norwegian Air Force Officer who fled the German occupation continued to fight as a member of the R.A.F., becoming an ace with eleven kills. S.P., 5 1/4" x 7 3/4" b/w, a period press photo showing a chest-up view of Christie in his cockpit. He signs at lower left in blue ink. The verso bears typed captions in English and Norwegian, dated Jan. 13, 1944. Contrast of the signature slightly light, else very good. Three pieces.
