Description:

ROY DE MEO'S 'PEEP SHOW' TOKEN
ROY DE MEO (1940-1983) American mobster in the Gambino crime family in New York City. He and his crew, which consisted of approximately twenty associates, were involved in murder, car theft, drug dealing, prostitution and pornography. The gang became notorious for the large number of murders they committed and for the grisly way they disposed of the bodies. The crew is believed to be responsible for up to 200 murders, many of which were committed by DeMeo himself. A telling DeMeo relic, a 3/4 in. wide octagonal brass token, probably for use in a peep show, from the famous Show World theater in Times Square ca. 1970s. The token depicts a topless dancer with musical notes about her, 'SHOW WORLD', the address, and on the reverse: 'WORLD'S GREATEST SHOW PLACE'. According to the included notarized letter of provenance from DeMeo's son, Albert DeMeo, this token was found by him in DeMeo's desk after his death. The younger DeMeo also states that his father had 'an interest in the place.'
