It had come in the Express Office at Selma some three weeks [ago].Christmas is upon us, everything is quiet save the darkies – there is agood deal of boisterous merriment among them. I am sorry to see that So.Carolina is doomed to Radical administration a while longer. There need be nogood [to be] looked for from them. We are jubilant over our victory in thisstate. Our Radical Governor [former Union General Albert Ames] refused at firstto give up the Executive Mansion & State Seal, but finally succumbed. Wehope for a thorough purging of all departments...".
