Description:

ROSA PARKS
(1913-2005) African-American civil rights leader whose refusal to move to the back of a bus sparked a boycott and led to a concerted civil rights movement. S.P. ‘Rosa Parks', 8 x 10 in. b/w, an image of Parks seated in a bus, signed at upper-left in black ink. The ink has faded a bit, otherwise fine. The photo is double-matted with two bronze Rosa Parks Medals, replicas of the Congressional Gold Medal honoring her contributions to the nation during the civil rights movement. Each of the massive 3 in. dia. medals features on the obverse her portrait with ‘ROSA PARKS' inscribed along the top and ‘MOTHER OF THE MODERN DAY CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT' centered along the bottom and sides. The reverse features the inscription ‘QUIET STRENGTH' centered along the top, framed by a swag of oak leaves on the left and right sides and the inscriptions ‘PRIDE, DIGNITY, COURAGE' and ‘BY ACT OF CONGRESS 1999' centered across the bottom. The photo and two medals (which are offered by the U.S. Mint for $160.00 each) are matted in brown and set into a lavish gilt frame.
