395.THEODORE ROOSEVELT (1858 - 1919) Twenty-sixth President of the United States who started the Panama Canal, settled the Russo-Japanese War, broke up Standard Oil and encouraged conservation. Most attractive and rare S.P., a 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" cabinet photograph by Rockwood, New York, showing Roosevelt from the chest, up in his Rough Riders uniform. Signed in black ink at top: "Theodore Roosevelt late Col. 1st USV Cavalry". Verso is dated Mar. 28, 1903, making it likely this photo was signed as President. Ink just a tad spotty, else near fine condition. $2,000 - 3,000
