Description:

FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT (1882-1945) Thirty-second President of the United States who instituted the "New Deal" programs and who led the United States through most of World War II. T.L.S. as New York Senator on official letterhead, 1p. 4to., Albany, Jan. 29, 1912, as Chairman of the Committee on Forest, Fish and Game to John Hackett, in part: "...It is certainly an extraordinary thing about that application for the water grant by William Barber. There is no question that there is no record of such a grant in the minutes of the land board and equally certain that there was no grant by the legislature. The office of the Secretary of State is now trying to find out whether it has not books containing copies of the letter sent by the land office. The letters of applicants...to the land office are...preserved...I do not anticipate however that we can prove any grant. I know of no other granting source outside of the land board or the legislature... ". With the original envelope, near fine. Early letters by FDR as senator are rare. $1,000-1,200
