ROOSEVELT Very rare typed D.S. as President on White House letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington, [n.d., ca. 1944], a "Citation for the Legion of Merit, Degree of Legionnaire", in which a junior Russian officer is honored for his bravery in combat on the Eastern Front. Guard Junior Lt. Ivan Makarovich Zhurva is cited for the following: "...During the Uman offensive and the operations resulting in the rupture of the Warsaw-Odessa rail communications...Zhurva was the first to overcome the severe resistance of the enemy and establish himself on the Kiev-Zhitomir Highway.
