434. FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT Very rare typed D.S. as President on White House letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington, [n.d., ca. 1944], a "Citation for the Legion of Merit, Degree of Legionnaire", in which a junior Russian officer is honored for his bravery in combat on the Eastern Front. Guard Junior Lt. Ivan Makarovich Zhurva is cited for the following: "...During the Uman offensive and the operations resulting in the rupture of the Warsaw-Odessa rail communications...Zhurva was the first to overcome the severe resistance of the enemy and establish himself on the Kiev-Zhitomir Highway. He destroyed an auto trolley and 18 German officers far to the rear of the enemy near the village of Ustinowka...". Fine condition, boldly signed by Roosevelt at bottom. $2,000 - 3,000
