Description:

RONALD REAGAN
(1911 - 2004) Fortieth President of the United States who served for two terms (1981-1989) and contributed to the fall of European Communism. T.L.S. as President on White House letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington, May 16, 1988 to his friend, AP reporter, spy and intelligence expert John Koeller. Reagan's angry letter is written following the release of ex-Chief of Staff Donald Regan's For the Record, a memoir which alleged that Nancy Reagan had undue influence over her husband, depended on astrologers, and was responsible for the ousting of William Casey, Margaret Heckler, Raymond Donovan and even Regan himself. Reagan responds: "...one of the hardest things to bear in all of this are the outright falsehoods. Nancy never opened her mouth about Casey, Donovan or Heckler, and she certainly didn't fire Don. Truth is, he'd told me several months earlier he wanted to get back to private life, and I left it to him to name the day. And, of course, we haven't been charting our course by the stars...we deeply appreciate your words and your prayers...". Fine.
