Fine content T.L.S. as President on White House letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington, Jan. 4, 1982 to the children of jazz musician and songwriter Hoagy Carmichael mourning the loss of their father. In part: "...Nancy and I were deeply saddened by the news of your father's death...Hoagy's passing touches all who have known and admired him -- he gave so much joy to others by sharing his talents over the years. You should be very proud of your dad's memory and his accomplishments. You, and your father, will be remembered in our prayers. God bless you...". Very good. Carmichael, best known for writing "Stardust" and "Heart and Soul", two of the most-recorded American songs of all time, had died a week earlier.
